My name is Mark Hassell.
I’m a former Wall Street trader (10 years in credit derivatives and structured credit), a former Silicon Valley executive (corporate and business development), and a former shipping and logistics executive who now lives in the Caribbean, where I work as an independent strategy consultant.
I started HassellTech as a place where I can write about Tech, shipping and logistics, living in the Caribbean, the life of a consultant, the life of an investor and everything in between. I hope to learn in public, ultimately reduce complex topics to their simpler state, all the while fueling my curiosity around the source of value creation.

I work as a consultant, advisor and sometimes investor in the alternative investment space.
Generally, I’ll look at anything that falls within the following categories:

Most of my engagements are on a retainer basis, though I have done one-off pieces of analysis as well. For example, evaluating an early-stage fintech investment for a South Africa based venture fund or advising on fund structure for an existing PE fund that was considering restructuring as an option. I also advise large corporates in the Caribbean on strategy and innovation.
